Molly the Cat

It’s all about self-confidence.

Twinkie needs constant attention; she follows me around, looking at me with plaintive eyes. Sometimes when I’m sitting at my desk, she’ll put her front paws on my leg, stare straight up at my face, and meow. She’ll do this until I turn away from the computer and give her my full attention for at least five minutes. (Oddly, she doesn’t tend to jump onto my lap, where generally speaking she’d get far more attention. I suppose it may be because Twinkie is far too obese for lap-sitting.) When Twinkie wakes up in the morning, she requires one minute of affection. Likewise when I get home from work. Indeed, it is though she cannot be happy when I’m absent. I explain all this to make it clear that Twinkie has no self-confidence, sadly.

Molly, on the other hand, is overflowing with the stuff. She struts around the house with her tail sticking straight up into the air. She knows what she wants (cheese), when she wants it (breakfast-time), and how to get it (hang out underfoot as I make my lunch). And if her paws get cold, or she gets a little lonely, she just hops right onto my lap and relaxes for a while — leaving when she’s got her fill, off to stalk around the house or practice her jumping skills. Molly is a confident cat.
