Molly the Cat

Today I came home to find the apartment in a shambles. A plant had been knocked from its stand, the bathroom rugs were all askew, and the shower curtain nearly disconnected, among other abnormalities. Twinkie had greeted me at the door, yelling her most piercing meow. She followed me around, obviously very agitated, as I investigated. I experienced some moments of panic during which I imagined masked men ransacking my home. But nothing seemed missing… except… where was Molly? Had I locked her in the bedroom? Was she crying in the tub, or stuck underneath the couch? I couldn’t find her, gradually becoming convinced that the masked men had indeed been in my apartment, and had made off with my prize kitty! But no. In fact, it turned out that Molly was sitting calmly behind the TV (although it took me a full five minutes to locate her).

I soon noticed a high level of tension between the cats, marked by hissing and growling. They must have fought bitterly today in my absence. A dispute over toy ownership, perhaps. I do wonder what happens when I’m away.
