Molly the Cat

This morning I found Twinkie sprawled out in one of her usual spots on the closet floor. Unfortunately she was sitting right next to some poop. I gently scolded her: “Why are you sitting next to your own poop?” As I grabbed various items of clothing from my dresser drawers, I noticed that she kept looking over her shoulder at the pile of feces, as if surprised and disgusted to see it there. She was trying to feign ignorance, but I didn’t fall for that. I came back with plastic baggie to clean it up and she ran away guiltily.

For Molly, bedtime is a very frustrating time. This is because when I get into bed she is always reminded of a fun game which involves looking at people through the narrow cracks between the panels of my room divider screen. The screen is adjacent to the bed, with one crack aligned perfectly with the level of the pillows, so when I lay down Molly knows she’ll have a nice view of my head from that particular spot behind the crack. This is why, when my head hits the pillow and my gaze wanders toward the divider screen, I will invariably see one of Molly’s shining eyes staring back at me from the other side of it. Her game involves stalking people through the screen, and if a finger or a nose strays too close to her she attacks it viciously. When I figured out the rules of this game it seemed like a raw deal to me, because (1) the game can be quite painful if I’m not quick enough, and (2) at bedtime I want to sleep anyway. Molly wishes I would play this game with her every night, but is usually disappointed.
